What is Red Dirt Roots Radio?

Hi everyone. If you’re reading this I want to tell you about my little radio show, that I’m  hosting 5 days a week. I produce a live segment between 5-8am.  (Pacific)

Right here from this little studio;  I get behind the mic and talk everything music, while spinning hundreds of original songs from artists all over the USA, stretching past the Northern borders, into Canada. This is a legit, online, web, radio station and tuning in is easy!
Just go to reddirtrootsradio.com and right there you can sample some of the music we love, as a station.

A lot of our music comes from Texas and Oklahoma, home of the original “Red Dirt” Title; Yet– we are not limited to that region. The Genre Red Dirt is a hybrid of Country, Texas Rock, Southern Soul, Americana and Roots music. We do play Some of the old Classics , but mostly new, emerging, or developing artists.

Singer, Songwriters like to try out their “stuff” with our audience. I myself am a singer/Songwriter and I love to create and share melodies and lyrics together, that tell my story or give my sense of perspective on life. Music has been a long, standing passion for me; not necessarily for the purpose of getting discovered and becoming famous, but rather and more so; for the love of the art and craft itself.

It aint over til…

Why do you think Otis Redding couldn’t do what 10 people told him to do? Why was he resting his lonely bones and “wasting time” on the dock of the bay? Was he being a bum?
I believe he was plagued with a musical indwelling…
You know…
The driving loneliness that a partner or room full of souls can never fill or satisfy.
The Call.
Like the dog separated from the pack.
Only this time it’s another shot…at another song.
Another key to unlocking another bound up soul…
Targeted, Powerful, Specific Therapy
The kind that only Music can offer…
All he could do was cry out in Melody
…from his own unique perspective.
Only one him.
Only one you.
So keep on singing. Keep writing. Keep tuning it up and dialing it in.
Keep on Keeping on.
-P.S. It aint over til…well you know how that one goes.

The Little Station That Could

Have you heard the music on this station?

Amazing, I tell you! Independent artists working hard, refining melodies, creating profound and relevant lyrics ; and applying themselves to the the work and commitment involved in promoting fantastic Country, Red Dirt Music.

Most of the folks you hear singing; are raising families, working day jobs and doing what they have to do to preserve their passions as well as fulfill the everyday obligations and responsibilities well known to the blue collar man.

The idea of a luxury, life of fame is smiled upon for those that have been chipping away at least decades or more, at this musical endeavor. Many a realist will tell you sparkles and fairy dust do not mark the way to melodic security.

How’s about making ends meet ? …and staying afloat is worthy of a standing Ovation!
It’s blood, sweat, tears and delay. It is faith for that which is unseen, yet greatly hoped for. It is a flaming desire to be heard in an exciting world of over stimulation. Individuals inundated with a thousand streams leading to the Ocean; yet the Ocean is never full, nor satisfied.

It takes radical, devotion and tenacity to the point of burn out and “flat-lining.”
“You cancelled your plans; you laid it down; you hung it up a time or two. You backed over your guitar. You swore you were through. …and yet you up and somehow revived; with that same familiar thorn in your side; and the drive to try; and try again.” (Jeri James Music)

A famous country, Western author Zane Grey once asked the profound question: “Would we try so hard if the veil of the future were removed?”

Will Hoge and Eric Pasley sum it up with a song well known and covered by the Eli Young Band “Even if it breaks your heart”
…That is…”Keep on Dreamin’, even if it breaks your heart.”

We all know the story “ The Little Engine that could,” right?
Well, the little engine did conquer the Hill of opposition by repeating the phrase “I think I can; I think I can…” So I’d like to help the many “Little Engines” out there in the Red Dirt and Beyond by sending out the word on outstanding; one of a kind music!

“This is JJ with Red Dirt Roots Radio; can I get a copy? ….over”

Country Music Has a Change of Address

November 5, 2016
Jeri James Music

A popular phrase among aspiring country artists years ago used to be “Nashville or Bust” Nowadays this seems to no longer be the sentiment with True Country artists. Those that long for and love the tradition that exists in Good Timin’, Honky Tonkin’, Toe Tappin’, Two Steppin’, Southern Fried, Rockin’ Country Roots Music know that the Red Dirt Region is now its primary residence.

It’s no longer Nashville or Bust…but…Nashville IS Bust!

If anything, the 50th CMA’s should be evidence in fact of this.

The decision of record execs to force their Pop Infused Version of Country Music down the throats of Country Fans is unsettling to say the least. Not just with “Traditional” Country Music fans…but with Many Nashville Artists as well! The look on some of these artists faces when execs dance out Beyoncé with the Dixie Chicks speaks volumes.

Beyoncé Gate has so enraged some Country fans to the point of saying, ‘Country Music is Dead’! As I was reading this very thought on a thread on Facebook, I couldn’t help but respond, “Country Music is not dead….it has simply changed it’s address!”

Red Dirt Country is gaining ground and it’s artist representation are reaping the benefits. One need only look at the success of Cody Jinks, Cody Johnson and many others like them. So much so that Rolling Stone Magazine has taken notice and has featured articles on them and the growing Red Dirt Music trend.

So….keep up the great work Red Dirt Music Artists. Keep making GREAT music and RedDirtRootsRadio.com and other stations like us, will continue to play it!
